Education and Experience
Nazrul received the B.Eng. degree in Instrumentation Engineering and the M.Eng. degree in Electrical Engineering from Gadjah Mada University, in 1998, and 2001, respectively. He received the PhD degree from the doctoral sandwich program between the electrical engineering graduate program, International School of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand and the graduate School of Information Science and engineering, Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2009. During the PhD program, he conducted research in Chulalongkorn University, in Furui Lab (Speech Information Processing and Human Computer System) and in Shinoda Lab (Pattern Recognition and its Application to Real Word), Department of Computer Science, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan. His advisors for the PhD program were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somchai Jitapunkul (chula) and Prof. Dr. Sadaoki Furui (Tokyo Institute of Technology). Nazrul was a member of International Speech Communication Association (ISCA) during 2004-2006. He is a member of Indonesia Society for Soft-Computing. He served as a reviewer of the conference of Applied Science for engineering innovation (ASTECHNOVA) 2009. He is serving as a reviewer of the journal of engineering forum (Forum Teknik), and the Science and Technology Journal (IPTEK).
His research interests include instrumentation, measurements, control, speech processing and recognition, pattern recognition, artificial intelligences and their applications. Besides Engineering, he is also interested to study about medicine, psychology and management.
Currently, he is an associate Professor at Department of Engineering Physics, Faculty of Engineering, Gadjah Mada University. He was a visiting scholar at
the Instrumentation, Control and Embedded System (ICES) research group,
School of Engineering and Digital Arts,
University of Kent, Canterbury, United Kingdom in October-November 2011, a research fellow at
Department of Control and Computer Engineering,
Polytechnic University of Turin, Italy in 2010 and 2011 and a visiting researcher in Shinoda Lab, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan in 2009. He was the chairman of Engineering Physics Study Program, Department of Engineering Physics, Faculty of Engineering, Gadjah Mada University (2007-2010), the chairman of ICT team, Department of Engineering Physics, Faculty of Engineering, Gadjah Mada University (2008-2010), the chairman of procurement team, Department of Engineering Physics, Faculty of Engineering, Gadjah Mada University (2008-2009), the leader ('lurah') of Indonesian community in Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) -
Tokyo International Center (TIC) (Dec 2005-July 2006), and the president of Indonesian Moslem Society in Thailand (Feb 2004-May 2005).
He is the Co-author of
"Computer Graphics using Borland C++ Builder Professional" (Grafika Komputer dengan Borland C++ Builder Professional) (Graha Ilmu, 2010) in Indonesian.
